Atlassian @ the Corn Exchange
After 5 years, we’re busting at the seams in our current Sydney office.
We started looking around for space at the end of last year and I’m glad to say that the search has been successful (just don’t mention the months of lease negotiations – it causes people internally to spasm uncontrollably)!
Last Friday we received the keys to our new office, a beautiful heritage listed 1887 building that used to be the Corn Exchange in Sydney.
As Robyn our office manager put it internally:
It’s an absolutely amazing building (that’s right, a whole building) known as the Corn Exchange. It was built in 1887 and was designed by the City Architect, George McRae, who is best known for designing the Queen Victoria Building.
But you all want to know about the good stuff right? Well for starters there are showers, which means all you well intentioned bike riders that say you don’t ride into work because it makes you stinky have no excuse. Also it has zoned air conditioning, which means that we can control the temperature and the time that the a/c runs at (I can hear the cheers from level 1 already). It has this great deck space off the staff area which will make for fabulous friday night drinks/poker nights/movie nights etc. Oooh, and 2 dishwashers, my dishpan hands say yay. Not to mention that it looks so damn nice.
It’s interesting that in our last employee survey of things we could improve at Atlassian, showers and better air conditioning (which is a problem in our current space) were the two top issues – both of which we’re fixing in this new place. The water views, wooden beams and sweeping staircases are just a bonus.
To celebrate getting the keys, we had an impromptu office tour and lunch party which went down very well with all the troops (minor squabbles about who would get which window aside!). This photo show cases the nice outdoor deck space we now have for throwing parties.
For more Atlassian staff-in-the-new-office shenanigans, see Charles’, Matt’s and the agent’s photos.
I’m super excited to move in, but we need to get internet, cabling and a few minor renovations done first. Sydney siders, expect a rocking office warming party sometime in mid to late June!
Oh, and the best news – guess how close the closest pub is to the office? I knocked up a customised Google Map to show you (hint: you could almost dive out of the office into the bar – 8 feet).
PS As a small shameless plug, if you’d like to work in this space – let me know – we’re hiring!

I’m jealous! Looks like a great office to be in and the location just can’t be beaten. I remember when I used to work in the IBM building next door and we had to carefully seat visitors facing away from the windows in meeting rooms so that they didn’t get distracted by the view.
Congratulations!
All I can say is you lucky bastards! Last year I used to work in the Allianz tower across the road. Pubs are close by and so is Fitness first if you need to do something about those many beers. I’m looking forward to the office warming party!
Cheers.
Congratulations! It is really great thing to move to new office. Especially this kind. It means not only moving. It means growth of the company and the success story.
I wish I could work with you in Sydney
Unfortunately I am still in Poland, working for another great company, which goes the same way, but is a few steps further, because it started earlier. And now became a mature corporation.
Nice digs Mike!
that office is a nice spot… but mate you missed the chance to sell a big (potential) employee benefit, you are meters away from the slip inn!
(maybe closer to the shellbourne but the floor gets sticky after six there
all the best
