Everything but the hands-free kit…
Finally caught up on reading my email today and a few items in the latest “Springwise”:http://www.springwise.com newsletter caught my eye. It’s becoming more and more possible to _actually have_ a second life in “SecondLife”:http://www.secondlife.com, the virtual world.
Scion is “running a campaign”:http://www.springwise.com/automotive/first_car_brand_drives_into_se/ inside “SecondLife”:http://www.secondlife.com by releasing virtual Scion xB for free.
Just think about that. A real world automaker using an artificial world as a marketing tool. They’re betting you’ll drive around in a virtual xB for a while online, decide you like it, walk into a dealer and buy a real one. Incredible.
Add to that the fact that Telus (Canada’s second largest telco) is now “selling mobile phones”:http://www.springwise.com/telecom_mobile/because_avatars_need_phones_to/www inside SecondLife.
I’m only sad they didn’t get together and offer a virtual hands-free kit to allow you to talk on your cell phone while driving your car around, safely knowing you won’t be distracted and virtually maim another SecondLife resident.
(Disclaimer: I’m a huge fan of the concept of SecondLife and not just because they run heavily manage every part of their business with JIRA – read the “case study”:http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/casestudies/linden.jsp)
