Long time, no posts – I am alive!
My god – I knew it had been a long time since I last posted, but I wasn’t aware it was coming up to 3 months. As the French crab says in Nemo, “I am ashamed”.
Here’s some random snippety catch-up thoughts, roughly categorised.
*Travel* – So where have I been? Well I have been a busy little traveller boy – Sydney, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Melbourne, Christchurch and beautiful snowy Queenstown.

h3. Work
Mostly, I’ve been working hard – a little boring really:
* “JIRA 3″:http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/JIRA+3.0+Early+Access+Program is almost ready (“release notes”:http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/JIRA+3+Release+Notes) and I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to play with building a J2EE plugin system for all our applications (“brief doco”:http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/A+Brief+Guide+To+JIRA+Plugins) – it’s really cool.
* “Confluence”:http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence 1.2 is released (“release notes”:http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Release+Notes+1.2) and we’re continuing to work hard to make sure it’s the best wiki on the planet. I kid you not. 1.2 is barely out the door and already the team here is working hard on 1.3 – I can’t wait ![]()
* Apart from product plugs, Atlassian is still growing (we hired 2 more developers – Mark and Nick), we’re always “looking for smart people”:http://www.atlassian.com/about/jobs.jsp, we’ve moved to an office that can actually accommodate all of us (pics coming soon) and we just passed our 2 and a half year birthday as a company!
* We’ve got a really neat new company logo and new logos for JIRA and Confluence, coming soon to a screen near you!
* Our fridge is a typical software company fridge (beer, Coke and V) – but scarily the office finished a 10kg (yes – kg) box of M&M’s in about 6 weeks.
h3. Conferences
* WWDC was fantastic, JavaOne was so-so – but the drinking was good at both.
* Hoping to get to “web2con”:http://www.web2con.com/ in 3 weeks – is anyone else going?
* I agree with “Charles”:http://fishbowl.pastiche.org/2004/09/16/woohoo_i_was_partly_right – who did you have to screw to get invited to “FooCamp”:http://wiki.oreillynet.com/foocamp04/index.cgi? It looked awesome.
* I’m off to “BeJUG’s Javapolis”:http://bejug.javapolis.com at the end of the year – it looks like a great conference for all you Euro techs, thoroughly recommanded by all last year’s attendees. And I assume Belgium is where the best Belgian beer comes from ![]()
h3. And the rest…
* My snowboarding skill is improving nicely after an awesome week in the NZ alps – truly one of the most beautiful places on earth.
* My hair is longer now than it has been in an awfully long time – I’m starting to fear I look like AndyG from Australian Idol.
* I’m truly sick of referrer spam – those people should be shot on sight. I have to upgrade our server to MT 3 I suppose – bloody commerical software ![]()
* “Spring”:http://www.springframework.org just continues to impress – excellent framework.
* “iMac G5s”:http://www.apple.com/imac/ – who doesn’t want one? Damn.
* If you’re a Mac user, you’re not until you’ve used “Quicksilver”:http://www.blacktree.com/apps – incredible.
* I finished the city2surf in record time (well, shaved 2 minutes of last year’s time) but I was sick for this year’s Bridge Run and coughed my way around the 10km in an hour.
* Entering my first adventure race next week (the Kathmandu Sprint – 5km kayak, 10km run, 20km mountain bike and a bit of swimming for good measure) – I can’t wait. Although it looks pissy compared to the “Jungle Marathon”:http://www.junglemarathon.com – that is truly hardcore.
* My gorgeous younger older sister is having her first baby in May – congratulations T! My third niece or nephew. What is the collective term for nieces and nephews?
* My little warehouse pad is slowly coming together – pics below – the great “Sammy D”:http://sdunstan.blogspot.com/ left a few weeks ago to visit Uncle Sam though, so if anyone knows anyone looking for a room in Sydney…

Wow – how’s that for a life update? I’m sure I’ve forgotten plenty (oh yes – ze women – enough said!) but I’ll try to be more diligent about updates. Peace.
